W wąwozie Masca/In Masca gorge

Soon I will write what I have been doing lately in Warsaw but I still need to make some photos;) Therefore today again my memories from beautiful Tenerife.

Masca Gorge – let’s not believe that people went there for a walk and then had even more power to take a bath in the sea. The trekking is quite hard there, especially the end. Maybe not that tough as on El Teide volcano but you need to be fit to do that.

Przed wejściem do wąwozu należy koniecznie nabyć w wiosce Masca bilety na taksówkę wodną.

Before entering to the gorge you need to buy tickets for a boat taxi in Masca Village.

The views are beautiful and the gorge is overgrown so intensely that it is from time to time hard to find the way through the wild plants. Of course it is not a problem for cats;-)

The village is pretty itself but we didn’t decide to stay there longer as we expected a long way.

Fotografując te opuncje pierwszy raz zgubiłam szlak w zaroślach. A propos, na Teneryfie pierwszy raz spróbowałam tych owoców-smakowały dla mnie wilgotną kaszą jaglaną:-)

When I was making those photos I first lost my way in the bushes. By the way I tried those fruits first time on Tenerife-they tasted a bit like wet pearl barley;-)

Wyglądały jednak tak zachęcająco…
The fruits however looked so promising…

There is a lot of fresh air in the gorge and at the end you can even hear the roar of the ocean.

Miejscami w wąwozie widać slady pożaru.
From time to time it is visable that there was a fire in the gorge some time ago.

On the bottom of the gorge there is a small stream but probably during rainy periods it must be much bigger – the traces are visible in the form of stains on the rocks.

W wąwozie spotkaliśmy te ptaki-ewidentnie biły się o samice, gdy te w najlepsze pochłaniały swój obiad;-)
In the gorge we met those birds-they fought for females when the females were having their lunch and didn't care at all;-)

The gorge was really high, good that we walked in the morning so we had shade.

I już prawie koniec wędrówki:)
And this is almost the end;)

From the Masca Gorge you exit to the beautiful wild rocky beach which ends up with a jetty to which boat taxis moor. We went down the gorge in 2,5 hour but we walked quite quickly and made only a short break to make pictures so please do not believe in stories how easy is to walk in the gorge and trekking shoes are an absolute must have! There is no other return than the boat taxi, of course you can try to climb back the gorge.

It is worth however to take the boat taxi (10 Euros, you should buy the tickets in the village Masca) because the boat swims close to Los Gigantes – very high and picturesque rocks. They are lava formations. Some of them are even 600 meters high! The boat taxi comes to Playa Santiago – a typical commercial tourist village however the sea is so beautiful there and has so intense sapphire color so it is worth seeing.

Then we went to Santiago del Teide. The name of the town sounds very exotic to me, almost like in South America. It is a typical mountain town with two bars, a shop and a church and a monument of a Guancha ancestor. The whole trip took an entire day as the bus connections are not very convenient.

  18. I was reading and it was like being there myself, and I have some impressions:

    - I didn't know cacti "fruits" could be eaten, but I have seen a cacti fruit in Palawan and it looks different (like a "dragon fruit") - http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_naQvSglrjJw/SrJznLYcdkI/AAAAAAAAHus/tGr5D7tUbug/s1600-h/image028.jpg

    - Some of the grounds during your trek looked "smooth", which would mean they might be slippery when it rains.

    - What a lovely place! How i wish I included Tenerife when i visited Spain.

    Lovely post!

  21. Hi Ola
This looks like a very strenuois hike but well worth the effort! Your photos are beautiful!
My husband is southern Italian and grew up eating ripe catcus fruits. I don't care for them that much as they seems to be full of seeds.
